Big boy now
First black eye
Colten fell and hit his eye this afternoon... I'll have to get a better picture but it turned black and blue and split open immediately. He was a trooper and only cried for a minute. The first of many to come I'm sure!

Colten's First Birthday Party
Our family all got together for Cotlen's bday on Sunday. It was a lot of fun. He was so funny about the cake. Every time he touched it he would make a face then try to hand the confetti to my brother. Finally Scott tipped it and then Colten went to town licking it and finally biting into it. He still wouldn't touch it though! Here is a video -Party Stuff

I did a simple carnival theme, I had so much fun putting this together... my brother pointed out that it was a lot for a one year old - I'm ok with admitting that it was more about having something to work on then thinking Colten would care at all. I found a similar pattern for the invitations on a bridal shower website and used photoshop to manipulate them into the invitations, labels and Coten's t-shirt. I made the bunting with Colten's name on it and the water bottle hangers. I found most of the other stuff at the dollar store or in the dollar section of Target. I gave the kids cotton candy, animal crackers, cracker jacks and a bubble kit in thier lunchbox and showbag and I put peanuts, pretzles and caramel popcorn in the metal tins. Anyway I had fun doing it and I was glad that it was an excuse to get together.
Frosty
Ash and I had a frosty today, this was the commentary afterward: "That cooled us off. Ya gotta have ice cream on a hot day! You just gotta have ice cream."

One Year Ago

Happy 1st birthday to my baby today! I can't believe a year has gone by already.
Colten had his one year check up and he now weighs 20.8 lbs and is 29" tall, he's still in 30th percentile all around. He's walking and trying to talk. He calls Ashton "boda" for brother and says "te-a" for here and "tan too" for thank you, he almost sounds Asian!
We turned his car seat around and he thinks he is the biggest thing out there. He loves to be able to see all of us in the car. He looks so small in that big car seat!
It's been such a joy to watch Colten grow. He is the happiest little guy and he's been such a wonderful baby - hopefully he's just as happy as a toddler!

He says
"It's just that game for humans." Ashton calls adults 'humans.'
Ashton's new saying "Are you kidding me, mom?" anytime I say no to something.
"Are you sure where you're driving dad?" said with great attitude!
Colten crying, Ash says "Don't worry Colty mom doesn't think it's your fault she thinks it's mine."
Ashton came in our room at 4 am crying because he couldn't find his pants. He had gotten too hot and taken them off. Absolutely hysterically he says "I took them off? Why would I do that?"
Souped-up and Ready to Ride
So Aaron's dad gave us this lawn mower a few years ago and it finally died last week. Well our good friends have property maintenance business and they offered a motor from an old mower of theirs. Anyway Aaron transferred the motor which I guess is more powerful than the one we had and he added the metal hood and exhaust. It sounds like a race car! He's pretty proud of it... It's going back out to his dad's since his mower just died too. I guess Aaron bypassed all the 'safety stuff,' so watch out to anyone who lives around Randy!

New Toys
Big Boy
When Aaron came home yesterday he yelled in the door for Ashton to get his shoes on and to go outside to help him. So Ashton did just that leaving Colten behind. Well Colten didn't like it, he went and got his own shoes and brought them to me! I couldn't believe it. He wants to be so big and right now - needless to say I did put his shoes on him and took him out to be with the boys.
Nursing cover
The newest thing I've made - and no I won't be using it, I will be giving it away!

Soccer

I am now officially a soccer mom! Ashton had his first "practice" this week. It was so fun to watch. I was giggling the whole time. As soon as it was over he called his dad to tell him that they kick with their shoelaces, dribble like penguins, throw the ball and no hands. He did really well to listen up to the last 10 min when he was distracted by playing with the cones... he's so my brother!

Nesting
Whether it's a new hobby or nesting I don't know- but I have been having so much fun sewing lately. My sister will send me a blog with great ideas/tutorials and then I've been actually making them. Here's some of the things I've done so far:
Bandanna Skirt: I made this for one of my nieces whose been cheer leading, it was a little big in the waist but really cute on her, even if it is just to play in.
Toteable beach towel: for another niece for her b-day.
Hooded towels: I've made one for everyone of my nieces and nephews and of course my own boys and baby girl. I thought they would be good beach towels for the little ones, I got them at Walmart for $5 for a set 2 bath, 2 hand and 2 washclothes! What a deal huh?
Car trash can: This one was for myself! Pretty cute huh?
Did I mention that I am enjoying cooking too? I know it's like an alien took over - oh wait.... Here's a great recipe I made the other night.
