Boys Adventures

Aaron took Ashton duck hunting for the first time this year. I was a little nervous about it, since Ash is so young, but he loved it. He didn't complain or anything and when it was time to go he got upset because they "didn't shoot a duck yet!" Looks like Aaron has a hunting buddy!

Aaron, Ashton and uncle Scott went Ice Fishing for the first time too - again Ashton loved it. He didn't complain about the cold (not my kid) and wanted to stay longer. He really loved riding in the sled.

Suprise!

Are you as shocked as we were? It looks like we are adding another little one to our clan. Completely unexpected but we're starting to feel "comfortable" with the idea of having two kids 13 1/2 months apart! No. 3 is due July 4th, which means we'll probably have the baby the last week of June due to c-section. It's funny because we have a lot of birthdays that week in my family including my mom!

We'll find out the gender on the 14th of January. Ashton really wants a baby sister - I think it's cause his best friend is expecting a sister this spring. I'm ok with whatever since I have my two boys. Aaron thinks it would be fun to have another boy (of course).

Besides feeling more nauseous, tired and moody than ever (maybe b/c I haven't gotten all the hormones from Colten out of my system yet) I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and apprehensive. I have a hard time adapting when things don't go according to "plan," but I'm starting to feel like I can do this and it will be the best in the long run. Aaron is super excited - since this will most likely be our last.

Christmas

Ashton kills me! He's been asking for two things for Christmas for 6 months - I thought we were going to get a very excited, jumping up and down, "this is what I really wanted" out of him. What did we get - nothing. He opened the presents, and was like 'alright.' He wasn't being spoiled or anything, just no big reaction. I told Aaron that it was disappointing, the only thing I really look forward to for Christmas now is his excitement...bummer.

On another note Aaron's mom got Ashton boxing gloves and a bag for christmas. He and his cousin Max had a good time pelting each other. And for those of you concerned about Colten's well-being, we left the boxing gloves at grandma's house!

12.23.2008

Merry Christmas!

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas! I'm super excited to see Ashton this year - he's had a list for 6 months and he hasn't forgotten one thing on it!

Santa

So Ashton got to sit on Santa's lap yesterday and it's the first time he really understood the concept. He told Santa that he would like "a tar" or guitar, Santa told him he could do that but he needs to start picking up his toys with out mom and dad having to ask him so many times! I think we'll take him to Layton Mall to see Santa every year! They wouldn't let us take our own pictures though so I don't have one...

Finally

We finally got updated pictures of the boys yesterday. Angie at Kiddie Kandid did a great job. We even took a couple with cousin CC.

Aaron

Ok this has been a crazy month! My Brother got married, Ashton got staples, Aaron had his birthday, Thanksgiving, my dog is sick with bronchitis and a million other things. In all the run around I feel like Aaron's bday was a bust. I tried to take him out to dinner but after one bite of mine I started to fall asleep, that's right I could barely keep my eyes open. I'm so glad that he was understanding. I just wanted to say how grateful I am for him. He is a wonderful father and a great husband. He's my best friend and I know we wouldn't survive without him. So happy belated birthday - We love you!

Ashton has been saying the funniest things.

  • Last night he was riding in the car with his dad when they came up next to a coca-cola truck... ASH: Look dad that's a soda truck Dad: What kind of soda is it? Ash: The kind mom drinks, but it's not good she needs to have drinks like us, like orange juice and apple juice.
  • "If I did that my tent would fall down and I would say 'what the heck!'"
  • "I'm gonna go live at Carter's house but Colten can stay here."

Oh Happy Day!

Scott and Carly Wedding Slideshow from Tia Bowen on Vimeo.

Scott and Carly were married yesterday - it was a beautiful day. We're so excited to have Carly as part of our family. This is their wedding video they played at the reception and the only pictures I took that turned out. I'll have to get some from my sister.

The Un-Holy War

I saw this on my friends blog and had to post it. We have a split home - Aaron's family are all Y fans. His grandma played softball for them in college and is remembered for listening to every game on her radio. My parents also went to the Y and until we moved to SLC I also thought I was a fan (oh forgive me). However I saw the light and was converted. I graduated from the U in '06 and well my blood bleeds red. Yesterday Ashton's grandma J asked him what color he will be wearing for the game - he said, with out coaching, even after we told him his dad was wearing blue, that he would be wearing RED! Oh happy day for me! And he actually will - only because that is the color of his tie for my brother's wedding tomorrow. Yes he's getting married on game day and his reception is up at the U of U...fun huh? Needless to say we won't actually be watching the game. Go Utes!

11.19.2008

And so it begins...

This morning, an half before the boys' doctor appointment Ashton fell backwards off of my bed and cracked his head on my cedar chest. I took him into the front room to wait for dad to come home and of course got blood everywhere, all over my face and hair and on the carpet. It stopped bleeding so we decided just to take him into the doctor for his appointment instead of the ER. He ended up needing two staples - which I had never seen done before - ouch! They don't numb it at all, they just shoved the staples right into his head! He cried and said "I don't like these people!" I told him he was being so tough and brave - he told me that he was NOT tough or brave. Afterward he had to get his flu shot booster...poor kid will never want to go to the doctor again.
In between all of this Colten had his wellness check up. He weighs 16.9 lbs and is 26" long. (Ashton weighed 17.6 lbs at 5 months and Aaron weighed 18 lbs at 6 months. I did not weigh 16 lbs until I was 14 months old!) He's in the 40th percentile for height and weight and 50th for his head...so I guess he doesn't have the Jackman head after all. He will however need a helmet for his flat head so we'll be getting that in December. I think he'll be happier since we won't constantly be rolling him over onto his stomach and trying to make him sleep on his side.
Colten is rolling all over the place now. He's trying to scoot - so it won't be long before he's crawling. He's also eating baby food, the whole time I feed him he makes faces like he isn't sure if he likes it. I can't believe how fast it goes with #2!

My brother's wedding is this weekend so look for more pics on Sunday... I can't wait to see Ashton in his little tie!

Catholic Diocese Supports Church on Prop 8

Catholic Bishop John C. Wester, of Salt Lake City sent this Press Release:

“In light of recent events, I wish to express the support and solidarity of the Catholic
Diocese of Salt Lake City with our brothers and sisters in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Recently, both of our churches took a strong stand in California to support Proposition 8 which sought to maintain the traditional definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. Like our friends in the Mormon faith, the Catholic Church has long championed and promoted the sacredness of traditional marriage and the importance of the family in our society. While acknowledging that this position is not universally held in our society today, our churches are committed to proclaiming the truth and we cherish our ability to participate in the democratic process. It is worth noting that our two churches joined with a wide alliance of people from different faiths and ethnicities including Orthodox, Jews, Evangelicals, Hispanics, African
Americans, Asians and Anglos. Our defense of traditional marriage should in no way be
interpreted as an attack on any person. To the contrary, we honor the dignity and sacredness of
each individual.

I acknowledge that this is a very controversial topic in society today and that many people
have strong feelings regarding the definition of marriage. It is my hope that in the ongoing
conversation, both sides would engage the democratic process in mutual respect and acknowledge the right of the other to speak in the public square. One of the hallmarks of our country is that people of different opinions can debate neuralgic issues and at the same time demonstrate respect, civility and courtesy for the other. I pray that this will be the case going forward.”

I completely agree with the 2nd paragraph. Prop. 8 was put on the ballot so that the people of California could voice their opinions through voting. It is every Americans right to "speak in the public square" be that by knocking on doors or paying for advertisements. I hope both sides can show respect for the other. Destroying each others property and getting confrontational is not the Lord's way and it is not respectful of each others differing opinions. I hope members of the church can rise above it and act in a christian manner even to those who do not believe the same way we do.

Fire Family

We went to visit Aaron at the station last night - it was fun to get Colten's first pics with the truck.

Wahoo

"Zero days until the election. Zero: The number of times in our nation's 232 year history, as of the time of writing, that the country -- despite being originally populated by dark-skinned Eurasian migrants, having a multi-continental populace going back longer than the country itself, currently boasting a citizenry with genetic ties to every conceivable place in the world, and a roughly equal (though leaning female) gender breakdown -- has seen fit to elect a non-white, non-male person as either its president or vice president.

Today is the last day in our nation's history that we'll ever have to admit that again."

-From the daily show blog yesterday

I am happy about our President Elect as many of you already assumed... I don't affiliate with any party but I tend to vote for the candidate who is the most charitable, who looks out for those in need and who are less-fortunate. I'm all for spreading the wealth and I strongly believe that "what goes around comes around" so those giving often receive in return more than they ever gave ... I am excited to see what Obama will do in the next 4 to 8 years!

11.04.2008

It's the day

I'm so excited for the election today. It is truly historical, between an African American for President and a women for Vice President. Someday I'll tell my grandchildren about it - even if they don't want to hear it. Can't wait to see the results - oh and yes Jeremy I will gloat!!!!

Funny blog

Over Heard In The Ward super funny blog were people write in the funny things they heard at church - if your looking for a quick laugh check it out. Here's an example:

Bishop:
Can you change the Ashton's last name on their records to Axton with an 'x' instead of an 'sh'?
Clerk: Sure... Why?
Bishop: Sister Ashton is changing her name name legally to Axton... She thinks that everyone keeps calling her ass ton.

Tell That to the Sixties

Teacher: Nothing good ever came from drugs.
Man on back row whispers: What about Bob Marley?

But You Can Call Me Hey-Suess

Boy #1: I got baptised last week
Boy #2: you did?
Boy #1: Yep , and I got my name changed when I got baptised, I took on the name of Christ.
Boy #2: huh??!!
Boy #1: Yep , so you can call me Christ now if ya want too.
Boy #2: OK, pass me a crayon, Christ.

Lagoon

I took Ashton to Lagoon yesterday...we had so much fun. He was so brave. He went on all the bigger- little kid rides and even Tidal Wave the big viking ship. I could tell he was nervous on a few but all he said was that it made his tummy tickle.

The Measure of Our Civility.

catenzaros: The Measure of Our Civility.

My friend blogged about the Oprah show on Wednesday - which I also saw and it made me reflect on my own behavior. I would add to her post that Dr. P.M. Forni said "We are all the trustees of one another's happiness and well being." It made me really think about the times I have ruined someone else's day by being unintentionally rude. By not thinking about how my actions or words would affect the other person. Even my own kids in trying to get things done my way. It's something I want to be more aware of.

Update on Colten & Scrapbook Pages

So Aaron sat in the doctor's office for a hour and a half before seeing the dr. for 4 min. yesterday (he was not happy). The Dr. said that Colten's head is flat but that we should wait till 7 months to see if it resolves itself - if not then he'll prescribe a helmet. Wahoo I'm so glad we have more time. Aaron said that the other kids in the waiting room had really bad heads and Colten's looked really good in comparison - so there is hope.

Some of you have asked about the scrapbook pages I do - I use a free site called scrapblog.com. It's AWESOME! I can design my own or use pre-designed pages with access to all their elements. Check it out!

Pumpkin Patch

We went to Day Farms' hay ride and pumpkin patch today. It was so fun to see how much Ashton has grown. He's more concerned with his friends than his mom now - a little sad for me! I asked him why he put his hat sideways (as shown in the picture), he said cause "I'm cool like that." Where does he get this stuff?

Early Voting

Early voting begins Oct. 21 through Oct. 31, you just need to be registered to vote 30 days prior. Here's a link to where you can go to vote in Utah. If you haven't registered yet you still can until the 20th.... here's the info. As we can see in Cali right now it's imperative that we get involved in our country's politics and vote - it will make a difference.

BAAAA! Great blog...

Seriously So Blessed

So my sister introduced me to this blog which is hilarious, especially if you love to see the irony in Utah Mormon culture (don't worry not the church or beliefs). Here's a sample:

No Fair

We woke up to a good three inches of snow this morning. All I have to say is that this winter better not last till June!

10.07.2008

East Canyon

We met up with Aaron's family this weekend to go "camping," we just went up for the day to enjoy the outdoors. It poured the whole time but the kids had a blast anyway - that of course includes Aaron. Despite the weather the kids got out fishing and we even cooked dinner over the fire (yes in the rain). I really enjoyed hanging out and talking too - in the warmth of the campers!

Free Handbags

As most of you know I love handbags - and it's a treat I rarely indulge in (it's the one thing Aaron can't stand that I buy)... well I came across this site on my friends blog where they are giving away 24 handbags to celebrate their launch! Check it out here!

10.06.2008

General Conference

As hard as it was to listen to it this year (little kids running around etc.), I caught a few great quotes to ponder:

"We cannot afford to be superficially righteous."
M. Russell Ballard

"Never let a problem to be solved be more important than a person to be loved."
President Thomas S. Monson

"We're grateful to be in this world with the opportunity to not be of it."
Closing prayer last session
