Colten Argyle Jackman

Little Colten : 7 lbs 7 oz, 19 in, born on the 14th. We're over joyed to have a new addition to the family - even Ashton was sweet with him! He came in wanting to see his baby brother and he kept saying "Ashton is here." He looks exactly like his dad's baby pictures, with a little darker hair - we'll see whose personality he has!

37 Weeks

Well I thought some of my family might like to see what I look like prego with #2... I'm smaller this time so maybe he'll be average size (you know 7.5 lbs instead of 9 lbs 1 oz)! He also dropped a lot this week, I know that's hard to believe but I really carry very high. Anyway not much longer and we'll get to meet the little guy (who still has no name).

Tie one on

My son loves ties - I have no idea where he gets it from: so I bought him this one for Easter and he insisted on getting dressed up to play in the sand box! He definitely has a mind of his own!

Las Vegas!

My mom, sister, kids and I all went to Las Vegas this week for a last hoo-rah before my sister heads of to law school. It was so fun and warm! We even got to swim in an outdoor pool. Ashton thought it was fun to stay in a "helltel" (hotel) and we couldn't stop laughing at his accent! The two kids were a crack-up, Ash loved to make CC laugh and she adored being entertained by him. We felt like our own exhibition with two kids an my 8 month prego belly! People would stop us everywhere to talk to the kids and find out what I was having - ya'll know how much I love that!

Anyway, one of the days we took the kiddos to the Mirage to see the dolphins and tigers - Ashton loved it. Gram bought him a little stuffed white tiger which he carried around for the rest of the week. When he saw a life saver hanging by the pool he asked me if he could use it to swim in the pool with the dolphins, when I explained that we couldn't swim there but back at the hotel he asked if he could take it with him! I'll post more pics when I get them from my mom/sister.

Easter

It was a really quiet Easter this year. Ashton and I went to my parents to have dinner and color eggs. We of course stopped by the fire station to say hello to dad too!

Tackle the Tower

We went to watch Aaron and some of his co-workers compete in their second annual Tackle the Tower fund raiser for the American Lung Association. They have to climb 23 flights of stairs in full gear and on oxygen! They all come out a little pale as you can see!

The Church Takes Stand on Immigration

Those of you who know me well know how I feel about the immigration issue... I am extremely liberal (on this issue) and believe that the Book of Mormon prophesies of the day when Lehi's children would recieve the blessing of their inheritance, this land. Recently, Elder Jensen was sent by the First Presidency to address this issue with law makers. I've included the article from the trib. My dad sent this email to me regarding the article:

"Elder Jensen is getting slaughtered in the comment section at the end of the article. Some times even good Mormons have a hard time following the prophets. In this case too few of them have read The Book of Mormon enough to know the modern day prophets are in tune with The Book of Mormon prophets, thus the Lord."

LDS Church asks lawmakers to weigh morality, ethics in immigration reforms

A prominent leader from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has implored Utah's overwhelmingly Mormon Legislature to "slow down, step back and carefully study and assess the implications and human costs involved" in a slew of immigration bills they are considering on Capitol Hill. Marlin Jensen, a member of the LDS Church's Quorum of Seventy, told a modest crowd at the Wednesday evening opening reception of Westminster College's "Beyond Borders and Fronteras" colloquy that "with decisions hanging in the balance that have such significant consequences, I believe a more thoughtful . . . not to mention humane, approach is warranted." Immigration has emerged as a key issue during the legislative session that began Jan. 21, with lawmakers considering a litany of bills that would limit significant privileges and impose extensive penalties for the state's undocumented immigrants. But, Jensen said, "immigration questions are questions dealing with God's children," and legislators should "measure twice before they cut." His comments expounded publicly on the private pleas of church leaders last month for Legislators to act with compassion as they consider immigration reform. While repeating the mantra that the LDS church generally takes no position on political issues, Jensen noted that immigration was not strictly a political issue but a moral and ethical one. And as such, he said, he was not simply speaking for himself or even for the Quorum, a group of Mormon leaders who act as church emissaries. "I was assigned to come here by the First Presidency of the church," he said, referring to the church's three most senior leaders, including LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson. LDS member Michael Clára, who attends church in a congregation increasingly made up of undocumented immigrants, said he was gratified to hear Jensen's remarks, which he called "earth-shattering." He said it has been increasingly difficult to reconcile church teachings about compassion with the actions of a Legislature made up primarily of fellow Mormons.
"It's hypocritical," Clára said. "they have been welcomed and treated with respect and then they turn around and have LDS legislators kick them in the teeth by making laws that make their lives harder." With humble tones but adamant tenors, Bishop John Wester of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City and Pastor Steve Klemz of Zion Lutheran Church joined Jensen in his prayer for greater tolerance and cautious lawmaking. "Jesus himself was a person on the move - an immigrant if you will," Wester said, drawing nods from the other speakers. "We are called to love," Klemz added. "That is the kind of community we are called to work for."

Great-Grandma Ruth Jackman

Ashton's "Great" passed away this week from failing health, she will be dearly missed. She has left a wonderful legacy of service and love that all will remember. I learned so much about being Christ-like from her example and I hope Aaron and I can help carry her and grandpa Vern's example on to our children, after all it seems that service is what being a Jackman is all about.
